THE MASTERS LICENSE

MASTERS LICENSE

Stewart Training Center offers Captains a way to upgrade their OUPV license to a Master level license. The Masters License allows the holder to operate uninspected vessels as well as inspected vessels. The United States Coast Guard requires any Captain operating an inspected vessel certified to carry more than 6 paying passengers to be a holder of this license.
The amount of Sea Service and size of vessels you have operated will determine the license you are eligible for. This is determined on if your time is on the inside or outside of the demarcation lines on a chart. Masters licenses are rated by tonnage at 25GT (gross tons), 50GT, or 100GT. The tonnage your license will be approved for will be determined by the size of vessel you have operated in the last three years. Most Captains will get their 50 ton license if all of their time is predominently on a small craft. ex:18ft. bass boat.
Here are some requirements. You need only 1 day on a 5GT vessel to acquire a 50 Ton license.
